I work as a freelance editor in RL. I also localize medieaval browser based games (not going to name drop though! J). I'm a huge LOTR fan and especially like fan fic involving Legolas, Haldir and Glorfindel (not together though! I don't like slash. I like the story line, in fact it seems you caught on what many trying their hand in AU and modern-day girl finds herself in Middle Earth seem to often-a-time miss: if said girl died in the modern world, she should be immortal when in ME, given how our soul is immortal. Therefore, this relationship can actually make it. :)

Finally a good HET between Glorfindel and a woman. and a modern day woman to boot! Yay! I hope the romance is between them. :)
As for the mortal bit, don't worry too much about it. If their union is blessed/meant to be by the Valar there is an elixir called "Limpe" that if a mortal drinks 3 drops of it they become immortal too. This elixir is only found in the Valar's island in Amman, as they're the ones who make it. But, I'm sure they will find a way to deliver said elixir to Arda, or perhaps if Glorfindel and Thistle sail west... :)
Anyway, the reference to the Limpe can be found in Tolkien's Unfinished Tales, in the chapter of "The chaining of Melkor".
