Sauron had been hankering for this delicacy for almost a century; now he could wait no more.
At the doors of the main fortress of Eregion, he paused in threading the freshly killed body of Lord Celebrimbor onto a pole to whip out a knife and carve a generous slice from the elf’s flank.
He handed the pole and its bleeding cargo to a follower, then sat down on the doorstep, took two slices of bread from his knapsack, slapped the raw flesh between them, and took a generous bite.
“Ah,” he sighed and swallowed. “‘Tis good to be back.”
