I came upon this story by accident and found the beginning quite interesting. I hope you haven't abandoned it.

You don't have to warm people that this is a different ending or non-canon, just put AU as one of the warnings, ( Alternate Universe ) that means that people who prefer canon don't have to read it, and those who like AU will know.
