Very well done. An interesting story that only a soldier could tell. I hope you will write us more stories of Pocosin

Author's Response: I submitted this story and it's prequel for the perusal of an old WWII vet who possessed a long-standing interest and background in literature. Although he knew very little about Tolkien and Middle Earth, he nevertheless agreed to judge the stories on their literary and soldierly merit. I was quite pleased when he later told me that " civilian could make this sort of thing up."

I'm glad you enjoyed the story, Lisse. Thanks for reviewing. Pocosin will indeed be featured in some of my other stories.

I enjoyed this one. Your characters are well done, especially Pocosin. This story captures the ruthless atmosphere which is to be found in Tolkien's descriptions of encounters with Orcs. The attitude "I want my mark on my first kill" reminded me of some gung-ho guys in the army, who even in peacetime bragged along the lines "Let'em come, I'll kill'em all!" Pocosin's feelings after the accident were admirably drawn, without too many words. I also like the way you describe Orcs. They have something of a personality in this story and are not just faceless cannon-fodder. Very good.

Author's Response: This particular story wasn't entirely fictional, as I hinted in my reply to xFanarix's review. I thought that the story, in order to appear more realistic, shouldn't depersonalize the Orcs. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for reading and reviewing.

I like that very much! It says a great deal about this young and confident man, and how the reality of what was indeed an accident, which is not that uncommon in war, changed his perspective. Well done.

Author's Response: Thanks very much, xFanarix. I had a few emotional issues to deal with when writing this one. Some of these original characters may appear again in later stories.

Title: Green Fletching Reviewer: Ria Signed
I enjoyed reading of Pocosin's further coming of age. Also, for my part, I don't care too much what colors their hair and eyes are ;)

Author's Response: Thank you, Ria. I'm glad you enjoyed it. The rangers appear a number of times and are described more fully in "Arwen's Journey." They were also portrayed in several of the movies' scenes and appear in some of the movie photo books, which I'm sure most of my readers are already familiar with. This was really a soldier's morality tale and I feel that a meticulous description of the rangers' persons and dress would not only be redundant, but would also distract the reader from the point of the story. I feel that I dropped sufficient hints as to my characters' modes of dress in this story and "The Lucky Arrow" to be able to trust in my readers' imaginations to fill in the minor details.

Good start to the story! I can't wait to see where you are going with this one. You might want to describe the characters a little better, hair color, eye color, etc. No spelling or grammatical errors.

Author's Response: Sorry, Lauren, but that was just a short fic. Goleck Dune and Pocosin the scout also appear in "The Lucky Arrow" and "Arwen's Journey."
